Many of our patients are surprised to learn that their essential GP medical information is not always available to other doctors or medical staff outside of their own practice. At Harvey Group Practice, we participate in the NHS ‘Summary Care Record’. This means that essential medical information (consisting of recent medications we have prescribed, repeat prescriptions, allergies to medicines) is made available on a need-to-know basis, with the express permission of the person at the time, by other medical staff (such as in the GP Out-of-Hours service – Herts Urgent Care).
There is more information about the NHS SCR scheme at the NHS Summary Care Record Website. This includes a downloadable form any patient can use, in order to OPT OUT of SCR. (But bear in mind that this will mean that doctors who see someone with no SCR, outside of the practice will have no knoweldge of their essential information listed above).
