Services for Patients

Appointments...
Appointments can be made in person or by telephone. We will always try to offer you an appointment within 24 hours for serious or emergency problems. Please let the receptionist know if you have a problem that cannot wait for a routine appointment and you will be seen as soon as possible.

We are pleased to offer the facility for booking your appointments on-line. For this you will need to register for the service and obtain a PIN. Please leave a request with a receptionist and we will provide a PIN within a few days. Once you have this, please click on the following link:
EMIS

We do our best to fit in with everyone's wishes for appointments. We thank you for your understanding in helping us to make the service work for you.

We aim to see patients at their allocated appointment time. However, the nature of medical care means it is inevitable that some consultations will require longer than the scheduled time - or interruptions happen for urgent reasons. Though we do our best to keep to schedule - we will always give time to a sick or distressed person - even if this means we occasionally over-run appointment slots. Thank you for your understanding if you are kept waiting.

Jersey Farm Patients should telephone 01727 837498 during the advertised opening hours, otherwise Harvey House from 8am - 6.30pm Monday - Friday.

For emergencies outside of these hours, please call 03000 333333. This is the number for Herts Urgent Care (HUC).  Your call will be answered by a call handler who will decide if you need to speak to a doctor, who will then call you back.  Alternatively you can ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647.  This service offers general health advice, but can also contact HUC on your behalf if you require a doctor.

Sick Children....
Children with fever or suspected infections may be brought to surgery where they will be seen as soon as possible.

Cancellations....
Please let us know if you are unable to keep an appointment so that it may be given to someone else.

Home Visits....
If you are too ill to attend surgery and need a home visit please try to ring before 10.00am wherever possible. The receptionist will always ask for a description of your symptoms as this helps the doctors plan their visits. You may be called back by a doctor to help us to organise our visits for the day.
To arrange a home visit, call 01727 831888

Telephone Advice....
A doctor is available Monday - Friday from 9.00am until 10.30am for help with simple, self-limiting health problems where advice only is appropriate and an examination is not required. These include: cold and flu symptoms (including swine flu), diarrhoea and vomiting, minor head injuries and falls, emergency contraception, cystitis, simple sprains and back pain. Please telephone 01727 731500; a doctor will call you back in the order that the calls are received. If possible, please give a land-line phone number for us to call you back on.

Please try to avoid ringing this line to ask for repeat prescriptions, except in an emergency. Repeat prescriptions should be requested in writing or via our online service EMIS ACCESS.

If you require telephone advice about ongoing medical problems, please ring 01727 831888 on Monday to Friday between 11.45am - 12.30pm and ask to speak to your usual doctor. It may be that the doctor is not available at that time & will ring you back later.

If you require general health information please ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647.

Test Results....
Blood test results are usually received back from the hospital about 2 - 10 days after the test (depending on the test). X-ray and Ultrasound results unfortunately can take around 3 weeks to come back from the hospital. To obtain your results call:
Harvey House: Telephone: 01727 831888 Monday - Friday 11.00am - 3.00pm;
Jersey Farm: Telephone: 01727 837498 Monday - Friday 9.00am - 12.00 midday and 3.30pm -6.00pm. Closed Wednesday afternoons.

Please bear in mind that tests organised for you by hospital clinics or outpatients are NOT routinely forwarded by the hospital to the surgery; the results go back directly to the requesting hospital doctor or clinic.

Complaints....
If you have a complaint or concern about the service you have received from the doctors or any of the staff working in this Practice, please let us know. We operate a Practice Complaints Procedure as part of an NHS system for dealing with complaints. Our complaints system meets national criteria.
A leaflet and complaint form are available on request.
